1MommyMD. What do you do when you’re planning a party and an item you need is unavailable? It’s time to DIY! If you don’t know, DIY stands for Do It Yourself. Sunday I threw my daughter a fiesta themed party for her 2nd birthday. I’d come across the cutest fiesta cookies on Instagram earlier in the planning process and was set on having some made for the party. Unfortunately, the business I wanted to use was booked solid for two months. I thought about it; I love to bake and have a creative streak so I decided to make the fiesta themed cookies myself!

Is your child obsessed with Thomas and Friends? Can they name all of the engines by memory? Do they like trains? If you answered yes to any of the above questions, then this is the event for you! “A Day Out With Thomas” is launching it’s annual exhibit at railways across the country. My youngest son went through a Thomas and Friends phase where nothing else mattered in the world except the engines, Topham Hatt, and the entire island of Sodor. So when we heard about the “A Day Out With Thomas” exhibit at our local Illinois Railway Museum we knew we hit the jackpot and could not pass up this adventure! And it did not disappoint. I had never seen a crowd of kids in pure awe, jumping up and down, calling out “Thomas, Thomas, Thomas” in unison! Some of them looked like they would faint from their excitement. It was like going to a Michael Jackson concert for toddlers!
Birthday parties are so much fun! Decorations, super cute themes, games, cake and children screaming for hours! Maybe not the screaming part, but hey, that’s what wine is for. Birthday parties are great, but I must admit that I don’t love attending birthday parties as much as planning them. It can be stressful, time-consuming and expensive (not to mention not altogether necessary), so it’s not something I do for every birthday. This year I threw a fun classroom party for under $80 with just a little elbow grease and several items I already had at home.

- Will my kids even wear their costumes? Many years, getting the kids to put on their costumes is such a struggle! I can remember me pleading with my toddler son to wear his giant sized baby pumpkin costume (which I’m sure felt awfully uncomfortable), and him refusing even go near it. He was afraid! And last year my 4-year-old daughter refused to wear her Doc McStuffins costume because she didn’t like how it “felt.” Every year I find myself thinking, “welp, another costume bites the dust!” I’ll keep the receipts just in case…

It’s that time again, my favorite time of the year. Autumn. When the world changes from beautiful greens, yellows and pinks to reds, oranges and browns. I can pull out my warm sweaters, dig up my cute fall boots, and rock my trendy jackets. As my favorite fall shows re-emerge, I can sit in front of the fireplace and relax with my glass of wine. But what about the kids? I can’t just simply tell them to go and play outside anymore, like during the summer when the days stretched on and on. As the weather gets colder and the days shorter, I’ve learned to love and appreciate activities for this season. Here are several autumn activities you can enjoy with your family.
